(2/3 May 2015) After a very successful First round at Oulton Park, local racing driver David Sutton was looking for a repeat performance at Rockingham last weekend. With very little testing time due to budget issues David went into the qualifying session with just a hand full of laps under his belt around the Corby circuit. However, David showed real speed and qualified on pole by 6 tenths which is a big gap in racing terms.
So for the race David started from pole position and made an impeccable get away from the line to lead comfortably going into the first corner. After putting together a blistering first lap he was leading by 1.5 seconds. From there on David was never challenged and went on to complete a dominant race victory without ever being challenged, his 3rd win from the first 4 race of the year.
Speaking after the race David said “Everything went to plan today and from the first lap in qualifying and I knew the car set up was perfect. That allowed me to push hard and get the fastest lap in and start from the front row.
“I knew I had a good chance of winning this race as my pace was so strong in qualifying , so I was confident and settled down quickly. Once the first lap was out of the way I just tried to put consistent laps in and bring the car home. It’s been a great start to the season for us as a team. The hard work we have put in over the years is starting to pay off. I would just like to say a big thank you to my sponsors at Avago karting and ADD Express for their help getting me out there racing. At the moment we’re just going from one race to the next trying to get a budget together so hopefully we can make the next round to continue where we have left off.”
David now has an 18 point lead in the championship and is hoping to extend that lead at the home of British motorsport Silverstone at the end of the month.
