Local racing driver, David Sutton, has been in action over the Easter weekend in the First round of the Volkswagen Racing Cup at the Oulton Park race circuit in Cheshire.
Having tested his Slidesports prepared Scirocco on Friday hopes were high for a strong performance for the Avago Karting sponsored driver. When qualifying came round on Monday morning the weather conditions had changed significantly meaning set up would be crucial. Despite having a few handling issues with the car David still managed to qualify a very creditable 6th out of 34 cars on the grid.
As the race time came around David and the team were confident of a good result. After a fantastic start he was able to make his way up to 4th place with some great overtaking. The race was then on to catch the top three and to claim deserved place on the podium. Unfortunately, the race was cut short after 5 laps due to red flag meaning David had to settle for fourth place. A strong result for the first race of the year.
David said afterwards “the start of the race went really well the car felt great. I felt I could make my way though the 3 cars in front, but it was just unfortunate that the red flag came out. The car feels good though so I’m confident of a good season. I would just like to say a massive thank you to my sponsors Avago Karting in Swinton, and Functional Fitness. Without their help I would not be racing this year.”
