Fulbeck - Club meeting
February 2011

This month the team made the journey down to Fulbeck, for the Lincolnshire Kart Club February meeting. This was in preparation for the first round of the NKF championships to be held at the venue next month. In the team this month were our two Regulars in Senior Max, Jack Harding and Matt NIcholson, and our newest recruit Spencer Scaife in the Junior Max class.

Testing on the Saturday went reasonably well although the changeable conditions made it difficult for any driver to find their rhythm. Spencer and Matt were particularly strong in wet conditions with Jack impressing in the dry. Much of the same was forecast for Sunday with drizzle most of the day making tyre choice and kart set up Crucial.

Spencer had a promising debut in the Juniors with strong finishes in the heats meaning a starting position of grid 3 for the final. Not bad for his first junior race and his first time out with Team Avago! Unfortunately he wasn't able to quite turn this starting place into the podium finish he deserved as an under powered engine let him down in the dry conditions. However, Spencer showed plenty of promise throughout the weekend and will soon be a force to be reckoned with.

The Senior races were, as always, a tough affair. Jack was on top form throughout the heats meaning a front row start for him and Matt also had a steady run through the heats starting from grid 6. Hopes were high for both men for the final as the lights went to green but it wasn't to be this weekend. Matt didn't quite have the pace to run with the front three and came home in a respectable 6th place. However, it was his first visit to the circuit and this time in the seat will be invaluable when we return next month for the NKF race. Jack did have the pace though and the front 3 were nose to tail for all 12 laps. However, a small mistake at the first chicane meant a two kart length gap for the leader which was enough to keep Jack at bay in 2nd place.

Even though these were not the results we had been hoping for, the main aim of the weekend was to test for the big race next month. With that in mind I am pretty confident all the guys will be on the pace and am looking forward to getting the championship off to a strong start. Next up is Larkhall, Scotland. This again should be a good learning curve for the boys in preparation for a championship race there.
