'W' Plate meeting at Wombwell
9 May 2010
This meeting was the biggest on the calendar at the South Yorks Kart Club, the W Plate which is held in memory of the late Brian Wilson. The team went into the meeting with a strong line up of senior drivers. Jack Harding, Matt Nicholson and Tom Rhodes had all been quick the previous month so hopes were high. In minimax we also had Kyle Jones testing on the saturday who again improved steadily throughout the day. Testing also went well for the senior guys with all of them posting very quick times within a couple of tenths of lap record pace. However, Jack Harding seemed to have slight edge on the field all day.
When the team arrived at the track on Sunday morning the weather was settled and all looked good for the day ahead. The heats were not without incident but some good results gave Jack Pole, Matt Grid 3 and Tom had some work to do going off grid 14.
From pole Jack made a great start and was never headed. David Sutton, Jack's driver coach, commented ''that was the best Jack's ever driven. He kept a cool head all day and managed to put in really consistent times throughout the race. He really deserved the win.''
Matt also made a good start managing to slot into 2nd place. He gave it his all to try stay with Jack but on the day ha wasn't quite able to match Jack's pace. He was able to finish in a very creditable 2nd place though.
Tom's race was a little more eventfull coming off grid 14. He was steadily making his way through the field and was up to 8th place when an over ambitous move dropped him down to 12th place. He was able to reclaim a few spots though and fought his way back up to 9th place.
All in all it was a great weekend for the team. Team manager Ben Butler said ''I'm very pleased with how the weekend went. To get a 1-2 out of a field of over 30 is a great achievment and to also have Tom in the top 10 was brilliant. David Sutton did a great job helping all the guys this weekend.''
